Funniest Blog on the Internet #6

Posted by Danielle on Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Welcome back! I hope you are enjoying Miss Mouthy! If so, tell your friends.

This is a fairly new blog and makes me chuckle every time I read a post. It’s called Catalog Living. It is too stinkin’ funny!

The writer, Molly Erdman, is an actor, writer and comedian based in LA. Basically, she takes pics from catalogs and gives them funny captions. You know how fancy catalogs have their items showcased, often in sort of an odd arrangement? It is so clear no person could EVER live there.

Elaine and Gary are a fictional couple living in the pages of the catalog. Frankly, I think their marriage is on the rocks. Check out these posts:

Secretly, Gary had always wondered if all these children were indeed his.

Just make yourself at home! If the sheets on the bed aren’t gray enough there are grayer ones in the drawer. And we just got the latest issue of Wallpaper magazine!

Elaine was not amused by Gary’s passive-aggressive response to her request to “garnish the cocktails.”

Funniest Blogs on the Internet-Post #4

Posted by Danielle on Monday, July 12th, 2010

I am a middle school teacher. I’m not someone who goes around correcting spelling and grammar everywhere I go. However, I often notice the mistakes and just bite my tongue. This next funny blog makes my day!

Welcome to The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks.

Funniest Blogs on the Internet #4

This is from a pet store. It sort of makes me wonder if someone just figured out how to use the “quotation mark” key.

Funniest Blog on the Internet

Fresh is such a relative word. I mean, how fresh does produce need to be to claim the title “fresh.”

I’m dying to know what the real ingredient is, if not custard. Just what kind of tart are you serving here, People?

If you know of  funny blog, please let me know!!

Have you been enjoying the previous funny blogs? Wait til you get a load of this!

I might be a math geek or I might not. But these graphs crack me up! The most difficulty I’ve had is picking my top faves because they are all so darn funny.

funny-graphs-eating-orange

That is EXACTLY how I feel about eating an orange…and sunflower seeds and chicken wings!

funny-graphs-movie-popcorn

I think what makes these so stinkin’ funny is that they are SO true!

funny-graphs-were-lying

I think when I was about 25 I realized the only person I lie to on a consistent basis is my dentist. As if he can’t tell I don’t floss. Duh! Now I just tell them I don’t floss, they tell me I should and we call it good for another 6 months.

funniest blogs on the internet

This week’s Funniest Blog on the Internet inductee is ThisIsWhyYoureFat.com It kind of goes along with some of my New Year’s Goals. No, not to eat as much fattening stuff as I can find, in order to clog my every artery. I’ve got that goal totally covered. No, I’m trying to get healthy. I’ve spent lots of time researching this and it turns out, I need to MOVE MORE and EAT LESS. Huh, who knew?

This blog makes me feel pretty darn healthy. In the picture above, you see the aptly named Double Coronary Burger. As you read this description, you might feel your arteries harden. Don’t worry, that’s a normal reaction:

A burger topped with five slices of bacon, four slices of cheese, two fried eggs, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onion between two grilled cheese sandwiches.

Here’s the weird part….all of that seems okay until I see it’s between two grilled cheese sandwiches. Seriously? Wow.

I have a sweet tooth. I don’t deny it. I love cake (this reminds me of a Friends episode, but that’s for another post). But this next item seems too much, even for me:

Feast your eyes (pun intended!) on the French Toast Cupcake with Maple Frosting and Bacon.

That actually sounds pretty good. Hmmm, maybe This is Why I’m Fat!

The picture is one thing, but check out this description of the Deviled Corndog:

Corndog hotdogs pureed with cheese, mayonnaise and tater tots, then re-baked inside a corndog shell.

Ug . The layout of this site is a picture of food and a breif description, but I’ll tell you, this stuff sticks with you. So, enjoy This Is Why You’re Fat!

Funniest Blogs on the Internet-Post #1

Posted by Danielle on Friday, January 8th, 2010

Every Friday, I *hopefully* will post about a new “Funniest Blog on the Internet” as determined by me. Very unofficial voting system. Previously, I posted on CakeWrecks, which still cracks me up.

Today, let’s take a look at Pets Who Want to Kill Themselves. Now, first of all, I don’t take suicide lightly. But pets in funny clothes cracks me up. We have a $1 pair of reindeer antlers we bought at Old Navy several years ago. We have gotten more laughs out of this holiday item. Poor Daisy always lets us know she’s indulging us by wearing them for 30 seconds.

Enough about me and my dog…let’s take a look:

The picture is awesome, and even better is the caption, “You betcha I’m going rogue alright. Going rogue all over your new satin furniture.”

They recently featured several Christmas photos. Here’s my favorite:

Doesn’t that dog just scream “Christmas Cheer?”

Before you start thinking it’s only dogs and cats, set your eyes on this beauty:

Best part, here’s the caption: “This s-s-skirt’s a tad s-s-short. Everyone’s gonna think I’m a s-s-s-s-s-slut!”

So, there you go. Check out Pets Who Want to Kill Themselves for a good laugh. Check back next week for another Funny Blog Friday!

New Year’s Resolution #1-Drink More Water

Posted by Danielle on Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

New Year's Resolutions-Drink More Water

In my recent post about New Year’s Resolutions, I said I was planning on selection just 2 or 3 goals for each month instead of dozens of goals for the entire year.

To start with, I’ll be drinking more water each day. I drink ZERO water, not even a drop when I brush my teeth. I’ve read zillions of reasons why I need to drink water but that hasn’t been enough to motivate me yet.

This is something I just need to do, like it or not. I’m not positive if I’ll aim for the 8 glasses a day or not, but even 2 glasses would be better than nothing!

A few weeks ago I got a a great bracelet kit from Habitwise. **full disclosure-I got free set to review. Just so you know…*** I am so excited to use these. They are lovely stretchy beaded bracelets in lots of different colors. I have the get Loss set, which is  meant to help you  track your food choices to lose weight. Right now, I’m only using the blue bracelets to track water intake. At the beginning of each day, I am putting 6 bracelets on my left wrist. With each glass of water I drink, I move one bracelet to my right wrist. It’s an awesome visual reminder to drink water and a super easy way to track how much I’ve actually had to drink. I’m excited to track the rest of my food intake later on.

So, what are you working on for the dawn of 2010?

Funny Friday Feature

Posted by Danielle on Friday, January 1st, 2010

woman laughing

So here’s a funny little factoid. Right this second, if you do a Google search for “funniest blog on the internet” MissMouthy is number 1. Wow! That’s the good news. The bad news is in that particular post, I’m writing about another blog I think is hilarious.

I’m making lemonade here by posting about funny blogs every Friday. I hope every one will make you smile, but I REALLY hope to make you throw your head back and  laugh, slap your knee when you laugh or nearly pee your pants. I don’t want any actual pee, because that’s no fun for anyone. Here are my general criteria:

1) It has to be funny. Not just a little grin here and there, but at least one literal LOL.

2) It has to be work appropriate. That can mean many things. For example, at most work places, you really shouldn’t be surfing the web at all. But, if you are caught on these recommended sites, you won’t get in trouble for inappropriate content. You might blush, but you won’t be fired.

3) Generally speaking, I don’t like watching videos online. I don’t have tons of time to read super long posts, so these sites will *hopefully* be a quick laugh.

What do you think? Will you check back every Friday? If you have a site you like, please email me the link at missmouthy at g mail dot com

Make 2010 the year you really LOL instead of just writing it!

New Year, New You!

Posted by Danielle on Saturday, December 26th, 2009

new-years-resolution

Do you make New Year’s resolutions? I’ve tried lots and lots of methods, but I usually follow along with the statistics…two weeks or less! So who am I to give advice?

Let me share some of my great ideas for years past. One year, I made very concrete goals, as in, “I will eat only rice at least 3 times per week.” Nice, huh? I was 22 at the time. Another year I made several goals in each area of my life: physical (diet and exercise), parenting (smile more, scream less), marriage, housekeeping, Bible reading, etc. I think I had 20 resolutions. I believe I kept zero by the time February 1st rolled around.

This year, instead of setting up one to twenty goals for the year, I’m going to try to keep one or two resolutions for 3 months. Every quarter I’ll start a new resolution or two.

For January, I’m trying to narrow down lots of ideas. Help me choose:

1) Track our finances. We aren’t very careful about our spending/budgeting/investing. I think our first step is to see where our money goes, then determine the best way to trim our budget.

2) I need to drink more water. Plain and simple.

3) I need to eat healthier…eat more fruits and vegetables, more grains, smaller portions and fewer sweets.

4) I need to exercise.

5) I need to maintain my house at a very minimal level. Seriously.

6) I would like to blog on a more regular basis. Once or twice a week?

7) I really want to declutter our house. I want to be an organized person.

8) More family time would be great. Not more time, really, but more focused time. Instead of having my nose in my laptop, perhaps I could color with my girls.

I’m sure there are a billion more, but this should be a good start.

What are you planning to focus on in 2010? What should I focus on in 2010?

12 Pearls of Christmas: Slow Down, Pray & Give Thanks

All Decked Out For Christmas
by Maureen Lang

One of the reasons so many of us love the holiday season is that it’s just so…pretty! Twinkling lights, shiny ornaments, packages that glisten with bows and fancy wrapping. Our houses are trimmed with wreaths and glowing trees, and the neighborhood lights up the night with strands of icicles and glimmering reindeer.

Even we get decked out for the holidays! Chances are most of us will attend at least one party this season, and if we don’t usually don clothing or jewelry with a bit of sparkle, now’s the time to take a chance with something that reflects the holiday.

Smiles are another reason this season is such a popular one. They accompany that familiar greeting-Merry Christmas! Smiles go with the gifts we give and with the gifts we receive. Smiles go with the old Christmas carols and classic movies we watch every year.

The holiday season is a time when everything can seem amplified. But what if we’re all decked out on the outside, from the sparkling clothing to our best effort at a smile, and on the inside we’re anything but happy? If life isn’t what we expected it to be, the gap between reality and our happy, hopeful expectations seem wider when everyone around us is laughing through the season.

I know there are as many reasons to be unhappy as there are to be happy, and I wouldn’t begin to have the answer to make this season bearable for everyone. But I do know a few things that have worked for me:

Slow down. What? During the busiest time of the year? Yep. I know when I feel completely overwhelmed it’s because I’m pressuring myself to do too much. So I try to plan ahead, settle for less than perfection, do my best without driving myself and everyone around me crazy. Choose what’s really important and let go of the other things. And I’ve adopted my aunt’s favorite saying: “However it turns out, that’s how we like it.” Works wonders on attitude!

Pray. As my pastor reminded me this weekend from Psalm 34:18: the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. God may not deliver us from our troubles, but He promises to stay beside us-in fact, closer than when everything seems hunky-dory.

Find a moment to give thanks for what you do have (without looking around at those who have more).

This last point deserves a moment of reflection, and is something I’m still learning to do. I have a child severely handicapped by Fragile X Syndrome, a genetic form of mental retardation. For years I thought I’d accepted his condition. I obediently said to God, “thank you even for this,” since it taught me many things about adjusting to the life I’ve been given rather than the one I might have chosen.

But as my son gets older, I see new forms of acceptance making that feeling of gratitude more genuine. I think I’m finally letting go of some of the hopes and dreams I had for him, my oldest son. I can no longer imagine him any other way than the way he is, even though I’d be first in line if a cure is ever found.

I still think it’s a good thing to give thanks in all things, even if it begins out of obedience rather than tender gratitude for whatever thorn we live with. But realizing it’s okay to grow into that gratitude was a blessing to me.

Maybe some of the bruises on our spirit seem tender during the holiday season, a reminder that all the glitter on the outside might not light us up on the inside. My prayer is trust Psalm 34:18. Let’s lean on Him this season-He’s right here beside us!
